Hon. Nina Markette Baker is a judge for the Coweta Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Brian Kemp in May 2019, becoming the first female superior court judge appointed in the history of the Coweta Judicial Circuit. At the time, she filled the vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Jack Kirby (Ret.).

The Coweta Judicial Circuit is comprised of Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup Counties.

Prior to her appointment, Markette Baker was the Troup County Solicitor-General since 2004. She was elected to the seat for four consecutive terms.

Before holding that position, her legal career included practicing bankruptcy and family law as an attorney at Whatley, Baker & Baker, P.C., serving as an associate municipal judge for the City of LaGrange, and working as a part-time assistant solicitor-general in Troup County. Markette Baker also represented families as an attorney on the Troup County Juvenile Indigent Panel for the Troup County Juvenile Court.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Converse College. Markette Baker went on to complete a J.D. at Mississippi College School of Law. She was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1999.

She has sat as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia and was also named to its newly-formed Seeking Equal Justice and Addressing Racism and Racial Bias Committee.

Markette Baker was named Georgia Solicitor-General of the Year (2017) and was recognized as Georgia Trend’s Top 40 Under 40 (2006).

She is a graduate of LaGrange High School. Markette Baker resides in LaGrange with her husband, James, a fellow attorney, and their two children.
