Newnan Police Department Investigators execute warrants at multiple locations regarding Blake Chappell’s 2011 unsolved murder

NCST Staff have confirmed that members of the Newnan Police Department with help from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office executed multiple warrants on the afternoon of March 20th, 2024. These warrants are in connection with the unsolved 2011 murder of then 17-year-old Blake Tyler Chappell.

Case History

On December 19th, 2011 members of the Newnan Police Department were dispatched to the area of the Summergrove Subdivision in Newnan after receiving a report of a deceased individual being located in a creek. Upon arrival, the body of 17-year-old Blake Tyler Chappell was located. It appears that Chappell had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Chappell was last seen walking in the area of Market Square within the Summergrove Subdivision on October 16th, 2011.

Warrant Executions

On March 20th, 2024 residents of the Beaver Creek Community in Sharpsburg, GA contacted NCST reporting a large number of Newnan Police Department officers were at a residence off Beaver Creek Lane and that they had set up crime scene tape.

Radio traffic reveals that at least one individual was transported from that scene to the Newnan Police Department with them being returned to the location several hours later.

Open Records obtained by NCST staff on March 21st show that Newnan Police Department Investigators, assisted by members of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, executed warrants at two separate residences just after 1 PM on March 20th, 2024.

The first residence, off Beaver Creek Lane, seems to have been the focus of the investigation, with the second residence only a few miles away off Sturgess Run. The timing indicates that the warrants were executed at the same time, indicating a possible link between the two residences.

At this time we are unaware of what information led to the warrants being obtained and executed or what information has been learned through their execution. NCST has searched the booking records since their execution and has been unable to find any bookings associated with the case.

We’ve reached out for more information and will provide updates when possible.
