London Tyree Snelling Enters Plea Deal in 2020 Murder of Tavarus Menjuan Mitchell in Eastgate Apartments
Plea sees Snelling sentenced to 15 years in jail with 15 years on probation

Coweta County Superior Court documents show that London Tyree Snelling has entered a negotiated plea deal that will see him spend the next 15 years in prison and the following 15 years on probation for the 2020 murder of Tavarus Menjuan Mitchell.

The plea deal was entered into the proceedings on February 28th, 2024. 

Snelling was arrested on December 16th, 2020, and indicted by a Coweta County Grand Jury on May 4th, 2021.

Case Summary

On December 14th, 2020, officers with the Newnan Police Department responded to Eastgate Apartments at 11 Dowdell St where Mitchell was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a stairwell. EMS units transported Mitchell to the hospital as they attempted life-saving measures however Mitchell would succumb to his injuries shortly after.

Snelling’s arrest on December 16th, 2020 was the result of information gathered in the investigation by Newnan Police Department Detectives.

As a result of the NGP, Snelling pleaded guilty to the Lesser Included Offense¹ of Voluntary Manslaughter for which he received 20 years with 15 years to be served in prison with the remaining 5 years to be served on probation. Snelling will receive credit for his time already served in jail which started with his arrest on December 16th, 2020².

Poss of Firearm during Commission of Felony

As a result of the NGP, Snelling was sentenced to 5 years of probation to be served consecutive to Count 2 and Count 4.

¹ In criminal law, a lesser included offense is a crime for which all of the elements necessary to impose liability are also elements found in a more serious crime.

² Snelling will be credited for time served in jail from the date of his initial arrest on December 16th, 2020. As of the day of his plea, February 28th, 2024 he had spent 3 years, 2 months, 1 week, 5 days in the Coweta County Jail. This leaves the remaining length of his sentence at just under 12 years.
