Decedric ( De’ Cedric ) Vonche Donson, the suspect who led multiple agencies on a nearly 50-mile pursuit that led to the death of DS Eric Minix in the early morning hours of January 4th, 2024 has been moved from the jail in Chambers County, AL and booked into the Troup County, GA Jail.

Booking records provided by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office show that Donson was booked into the Troup County Jail at 11:05 PM on January 8th, 2024 where he is being held without bond. Donson had been in custody at the Chambers County Jail in AL since his arrest at the termination of the pursuit.

While booking records in Chambers County, as well as all other publically available information regarding Donson have until this point referenced an address in Pensacola, FL, the Troup County booking report gives a different address of residence.

The address is listed as Chase Wood Court in Powder Springs in Northwest Atlanta ( Paulding Co ) however that road name doesn’t exist. There is however a Chasewind Court in Powder Springs that has a matching house number.

It is unknown at this time when the suspect will return to Coweta County for arraignment on charges here.

Updates

You can read our original report on the tragedy and a deep dive into Donson’s criminal history in this article. Below are some updates since that article.

  • It was units from Chamber’s County, AL that successfully spiked the stolen Dodge Challenger that was driven by Donson in the pursuit.
  • The Dodge Challenger had been stolen out of Douglas County, GA.
  • The initial Grantville PD officer who was involved in the pursuit entered the pursuit at Exit 35 south on-ramp to I 85 when he was made aware that CCSO DS Minix had initiated a pursuit just north of the exit and other responding units were too far away to provide backup, especially considering the speeds at which it was headed south. This is a common action between departments, especially within the county… to never leave an officer in pursuit without backup. CCSO units have done the same for GPD units during pursuits both on and off the interstate.
